Glenn Gould Fugue

Sometimes when you’re in the middle of creating something, you just get lucky. I was a subscriber to High Fidelity Magazine, and one month, not too far before we started creating Double-Stop, a new issue arrived with a unique gift from the normally staid magazine: a cardboard record was inserted into the magazine! The recording was of a zany little composition by Glenn Gould entitled, “So You Want to Write a Fugue” and performed by a quartet of singers. We wanted to work the disc into our movie so Ivan wrote to the esteemed Gould who promptly responded with permission for us to use the music and the likeness of the little disc.

Few people know that Gould’s incredible technique came from years of studying canine musical intuition. This rare photo provides some clues.
